Julian & Butch (co-owners of the Rusty Star Inn)

Continued

Much to Bella’s distaste, Butch and Julian hit it off from the start. Butch even persuaded Julian to stay on and he let out their spare room to him. This just added more spice to the Rockard grapevine as folk eagerly gossiped about the details behind their cosy, but highly unlikely, ménage a trois.

Fate took a hand one night when we were all over at Leroy’s enjoying a few jars and a couple of rounds of 9 card brag. Unfortunately, and unbeknown to Bella, the main gas pipe into the Star had been ruptured earlier that day by an extraordinarily large delivery of winter logs being dumped through the cellar hatch. As usual the bar was empty that night and for some reason, Bella had ventured down into the Rusty Stars cellar when mysteriously, the door closed and locked behind her. At the exact moment that Bella must have been standing at the bottom of the cellar stairs pondering on how to open the door, a freak power cut sent Rockard into total darkness.

A couple of moments later Bella reached into her knicker elastic, pulled out her trusty Zippo and promptly sent herself and the Golden Star rocketing up into the stratosphere. They found bits of the Bar and Bella scattered around Rockard for months to come, the only thing that survived was a huge old fireproof safe, crammed full of dollar bills that came crashing down on top of the Mayors new Cadillac.

Butch rebuilt the bar and Julian stayed on as bar manager. Between the two of them they turned it into the hippest and hottest joint that the Yukon had ever seen.

And as for the name, Butch officially re-named it the Rusty Star, in honour of Bella. Or maybe it was Julian.
