Our hero was born Jack Randy, in London, England, just after the war. His father was an accomplished inventor and his mother a well respected chemist and university lecturer. Due to his father's ideas and inventions, Jack quickly became the most popular boy in the street. Many people still remember the time when at the tender age of 7, he piloted the worlds first potato powered go-cart down the Old Kent road. It only ran for 12 seconds but during that time he successfully overtook two taxis, three buses and a transit van full of traffic wardens before finally wedging the cart and himself under a horse drawn carriage, which wouldn't of been so bad if not for the fact that it was part of a funeral cortege, but thats another story.
Tragedy struck young Jacks life when he was orphaned at the age of 9. The three of them were on their way to Paris in his Fathers experimental airship when they suddenly collided with a biplane over France, luckily for Jack, he ended up in a haystack whilst his parents werent so fortunate. Left alone and without any known relatives he was eventually taken in by the Sisters of the Grand Sein convent in Beauvais.
As a teenager, life with the sisters had become unbearable after Sister Faiths departure so he persuaded the convents gamekeeper, Francois Merde, (who had befriended Jack and had big plans to seek his fame and fortune in America), to stow away with him on a cargo ship bound for Nova Scotia.
Armed with only his trusty crossbow, his fathers banjo, his mothers wedding ring, a bag of fried frogs legs and seven francs, he was later double crossed by Merde, who, after eventually securing their passage on a night train to New York, disappeared into the night leaving Jack with only his fathers banjo.
